Metal Sonic is a piece of piss, you can beat him in 20 seconds. Before he lasnd, get spinning on the spot, facing the left, to get in 4 hits before he curls up. Hit him twice and he darts across the screen, then twice again when he's stationary. Job done.
Next part is just as easy, really. Just hit him when he crouches just before he flies up. I think you need 10 hits for this one. If you struggle, just save after each hit.
