Synopsis

Death Note is a Japanese manga series originally written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The series primarily centers around a high school student who decides to rid the world of evil with the help of a supernatural notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it.

Death Note first began as a manga series. It was first serialized by Shueisha in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from the first issue in December 2003 to May 2006, with 108 chapters in total. The series has been published in its entirety in 12 volumes in Japan and in North America. The series has been adapted into a pair of live-action films (released in Japan on June 17, 2006 and November 3, 2006 respectively), and an anime series which aired in Japan from October 3, 2006 to June 26, 2007. Also, a novelization of the series, written by light novelist Ishin Nishio, was released in Japan on August 1, 2006.

Characters

Light Yagami


The Main Character from Death Note, Light is a Brilliant and Clever strudel who in the first episode Picks up the dropped Death Note that Ryuk gave to the earth through boredom, and also through boredom Light uses the note to rid the world of evil.

L


L is the protagonist of death note, or antagonist. It really depends on how you look at things, which is one of the things I like death note so much. Introduced first in manga chapter 2 and anime episode 2, you do not see his face until later on in the series. He is the master detective who solved such cases as the Los Angeles serial murder case of 2002 and he has many identities. Before the ¡§Kira¡¨ case, nobody has even seen his face and he used many identities to conceal his true identity. Even around the police force, he requested that he was reffered to as Ryuzaki and when going to Light's college, he named himself Hideki Ryuga. This way, if light was Kira, it would be impossible for him to write his name in the note without the face of the popular music singer coming into his head, thus killing him. He also plays the part of the second and third best detectives in the world as well, being Eraldo Coil and Deneuve

Misa Amane



A girl with an immense crush on light Yagami. She is a popular idol in Japan, and tends to wear clothing in many different styles, depending on what she is doing. She is immature and tends to refer to herself in the third person (calling herself "Misa-Misa") in an attempt to be cute. Misa is completely devoted to Light, and she once said that she loved him "at first sight". Light, however, only views her as an asset to his plans because of her Death Note and her "Shinigami Eyes" (that she obtained at the cost of half of her remaining life span, twice). Misa read in the newspapers that the murderer of her family was punished by Kira, explaining her total devotion to him, regardless of whether she thinks of his actions as good or evil.

Mello


Mello was an orphan who grew up with Near in Watari's shelter for gifted children. Like Near, Mello was one of the candidates to become L's successor. Similar to L's fondness for sweets, he is often seen eating bars of chocolate. Although Mello is quite intelligent, he often lets his emotions get the better of him. Mello wears leather most of the time, unlike Near or L. He also appears to be less secluded in terms of his friends and hobbies, and seems to be fond of biking.

Near


Near is the Succesor to L, almost mimicking his style and technique in everyway, Near enters the series halfway through, taking the Kira case, also in the same style, he takes the Moniker as "N".

Teru Mikami



Teru Mikami is the Fourth Character in the Series to take the role as "Kira" selected by Light to upkeep the Daily purging of Criminals. Teru is a very organised and Scheduled character, filling out One page of the Death Note a Day.


The Shinigami (Death Gods)

Ryuk



The first Shinigami to appear in the Series, Ryuk was the God of death who dropped the Original Death Note into the Human world, with the instructions written in english. throughout the Series he Follows Light Yagami, and also helping him at times, but he does declare that he is not on his side and this especially comes into Play when L's hunt for kira is on.

Rem



Rem is the Female Shinigami who inherited her Second Death Note from the Death god "Gelus" after he used his Death Note to save Misa Amane from death, which is how shinigami die, by extending a humans life through the Death Note, and when Rem Gives that second Death Note to Misa Amane, she also gets the same Love and attraction to her.

Rules of the Death Note.

The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in their mind when writing his/her name.

Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject's name, it will happen.

If the cause of death is not specified, the subject will simply die of a heart attack.

After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

Death Note (¥Ç¥¹¥Î©`¥È, Desu N¨­to) is a series of Japanese films, adapted from the Death Note manga series, released in 2006. The films primarily center around a university student who decides to rid the world of evil with the help of a supernatural notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it. The two films were directed by Sh¨±suke Kaneko, produced by Nippon Television and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures Japan. A spin-off film directed by Hideo Nakata is currently in pre-production. It is announced to be dedicated to the pre-history of the character of L and released in the first half of 2008.

Watched the anime. It's.. pretty good. I watched five minutes of the live-action though and died a little inside.

L shoulnd'ta died, he was the best character by faaar.

Fliby, you were right. The ending is do damn sad. Damn i'm too sensitive when it comes to things like these T__T

But L writing his name in the Death Note to stop himself from dying. What a clever plan. When L said farewell to Soichiro and his head just moves down. Fantastic acting.

Oh and L's epic thumbs up of approval. Needs to be GIF'd! :G

My favourite Anime and Manga series. I've finished the Anime, but not the manga yet.

I watched about 20 odd episodes of it, thought it was ok.

Stopped watching when Misa Amane was introduced, thought that they were trying to make the story longer at the expense of the strength of the central plot.

I enjoyed some of the psychological stuff, but felt that they didn't go deep enough into the morality of the central concept, nor did they really develop the characters from what I saw, they felt very one dimensional.
