Rock band 2 drums: Hands on

Post by AlexCous on Sat 6 Sep 2008 - 10:53

I was delighted to discover a giant brown box sitting in my house. Inside? The Rock Band 2 instruments: Two guitars and drum set. I haven't had a ton of time to mess around with the new drums yet, but so far I can say they're much quieter, and they feel much better to drum on. Those new pads have just the right amount of spring to them.

Now I wait for play.com to lose stock of the first instruments, break my drumkit and replace my rock band 1 instruments with rock band 2 instruments. Hopefully.

The new ones are the ones on the bottom right?

Hmm... I might pick up Rock Band 2. I really liked the soundtrack on the first as it had to be for drums, guitar and vocals, so it wasn't all heavy guitar based shit like Guitar Hero.

Yes, the original Rock Band drum pads are the top ones.

Personally I don't care too much. Whilst the drums are fun to play (for a little while) I usually get bored and I go back to Guitar Hero (mainly because the Guitar parts for Rock Band are boring and easy, Rock Band really is Drum orientated). My current Rock Band Drums are actually faulty (the red drum isn't responsive enough to play properly), although I'll just replace them anyway. Im sure I can live with the original drums.

@Elmand, nice sig. Wink

Hm, I still think I prefer Guitar Hero World Tour's drum kit to be honest. I know the guitars and microphones are universally compatible, but is the drum kit as well?

I don't know if the Guitar Hero IV drums work on Rock Band/2, but I know the original Rock Band drums will work on Guitar Hero IV.

well they certainly are a whole lot bigger...

tbh though, if Rockband 2 is as stupidly expensive as the first i wont be buying it, same goes for Guitar hero IV

these games are just getting way to expensive

OMG REALLY? ROCK BAND > GUITAR HERO IV

Rock Band's had a price cut hasn't it? I think EA basically said Rock Band 1 is competing against Guitar Hero IV in the UK... I think we can assume Rock Band 2 isn't gonna make it here this year. Sad

Plus, I didn't think the price for GHIV had been confirmed or anything, just a 7th of November release.

Well EA recently announced a price-cut for Rock Band 1, something about Rock Band 1 in the UK is going to be competing with Guitar Hero IV, so I think it's safe to say not until next year. Although you never know...

Before 2009 apparently.

Oh and exodist, just because I said rock band is cheaper doesnt mean you need to instantly start calling me a rock band fanboy.

He likes to tell people in every post that he prefers GH. It's what he does.

Hey guys, im not trying to start an argument or anything, Im only messing around... You know I like both games, and I like one better, and you like another one better. Does it really matter? I didn't actually call you a fanboy or anything.

Either way Rock Band 2 comes out this sunday in America. Im gonna check on Play-asia or something a few days after and see if the solus is region-free, but it probably won't be.

PS

I prefer Guitar Hero over Rock Band.

If it is region free I might just have to import it. But I doubt it will be.

Yeah, unfortunately Rock Band 1 wasn't region free, other wise I would have imported that ages ago. Getting kinda annoyed with EA though, there's no reason RB2 should take so long to be released, in America the solus is actually coming out before the instrument edition of RB2... Im sure they could just do the same. Looks like it's just GHIV this christmas. Although I'll be getting it on launch for sure, same day as Gears 2 right?

Yeah its same day as gears, which is the reason im not getting it at launch.

A fair few scorehero members have got rock band 2 early and its been getting a lot of praise, heres hoping the praise is still high come the release in the UK.

Don't know if it's a massive problem (ie with multiple kits) but apparently the RB2 drums have a lot of problems. My Rock Band 1 drums have worked almost perfectly, until my red pad broke. If you have the RB1 drums, stick with them, it's what Im doing.

That video has already been proven to exaggerate. Theyre quite unreliable, but its to be expected, ill be surprised if there aint faults with the GH4 kit.
