Depending on what level graphics you're taking at college you probably wont learn much to do with actual photoshop (or, advanced photoshop) for over a year, from my experience even as a Art and design student we still havent gotten into advanced photoshop work yet.

They seem very basic - and your Yu-Gi-oh one for example, the render is too small in comparison to the background. In my opinion, the background ius the main feature and it just looks like you've tossed the render on top with no blending bar the little transparent cards.

try some tutorials, such as the ones on the forum or www.Pixel2life.com
