It's obviously the egg.

Something that wasn't quite a chicken (evolution and stuff, innit) laid an egg, and a chicken hatched out of it.

It was never intended to be answered, and it is in fact too vague to even have an answer.

Can't we just agree it was a dinosaur, the chickhen evolved from the dinosaur as shown by its dinosaur shape leg bone or some shizzle?
